Forever Yours:  New Work by Christy Puetz and Pau Wilson celebrates romantic Valentine's Day notions in a new way with paintings and sculptures inspired by social diseases.

"The influence of disease has helped to shape great events throughout history," says Puetz, whose current work transforms sexually transmittable disease into tactile, patterned sculptural forms.  Some pieces are covered with a combination of cloth and stitched glass seed beads; others have a smooth milky camouflage of false skin.  "These materials help to give the forms the appearance of active transformation like shedding skin, cell growth, and cold to-the-touch morbidity,"  she says.  "Many of my pieces walk the boundary between creepy and cute."

Wilson, best known for his pop culture depictions of suspected assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, has created a new series of paintings based on sex-disease propaganda of the 1940s and 1950s.  "I love how the naughtiness of sex diseases was turned into these portraits and graphics of hard-looking women," says Wilson, whose artwork includes portraits of these women surrounded by "germs" suggesting illness.  The artist has also crafted a series of sculptures depicting VD as colorful commercial products.

The exhibit will open with an artist reception on First Friday, February 6 at 6:00 p.m., and a second reception on Third Friday, February 20 at 6:00.  The show will remain on exhibit through February 28 and is otherwise open by appointment only, by calling 602-320-8445.
